The selection of bearing types according to speed

A. Ball bearings have higher limiting speeds and higher rotational accuracy than roller bearings, so they should be preferred for high-speed applications.

B. Given the same inner diameter, the smaller the outer diameter, the smaller the rolling elements. This reduces the centrifugal inertial forces exerted on the outer raceway during operation, making them suitable for higher speeds. Therefore, at high speeds, it is advisable to use bearings with smaller outer diameters within the same diameter series. If a bearing with a smaller outer diameter does not meet the required load capacity, additional bearings of the same type can be installed, or a bearing from a wider series can be considered.

C. The material and structure of the cage significantly influence the bearing speed.

Solid cages allow for higher speeds than stamped cages, and bronze solid cages allow for even higher speeds.

Generally, deep groove ball bearings, angular contact bearings, and cylindrical roller bearings are recommended for higher speed applications.

Tapered roller bearings can be used for lower speed applications.

The limiting speed of tapered roller bearings is generally approximately 65% of that of deep groove ball bearings, 70% of that of cylindrical roller bearings, and 60% of that of angular contact ball bearings. The maximum speed of thrust ball bearings is low and they can only be used in situations with lower speeds.
