How to adjust bearing axial clearance?

The axial clearance within a bearing can be adjusted by moving the outer ring axially. 1. Shim adjustment method: Place a set of shims made of soft material (soft steel or elastic paper) between the bearing end cap and the end face of the bearing housing. To adjust, first install the bearing end cap without the shims. While evenly tightening the screws on the end cap, manually rotate the shaft until the bearing rolling elements contact the outer ring and there is no internal clearance. Measure the clearance between the end cap and the end face of the bearing housing and add the required axial clearance for normal operation. This is the total thickness of the shims required. Then, place the prepared shims between the end cap and the end face of the bearing housing and tighten the screws.

2. Bolt adjustment method: Press the pressure ring against the outer ring of the bearing and apply pressure with the adjusting bolt. Before applying pressure, measure the pitch of the adjusting bolt. Then, slowly tighten the adjusting bolt until there is no internal clearance. Calculate the corresponding rotation angle of the adjusting bolt. For example, if the thread pitch is 1.5mm and the clearance required for normal operation of the bearing, then the required rotation angle of the adjusting bolt is 3600×0.15/1.5=360; at this time, reverse the adjusting bolt 360 degrees, the bearing will obtain an axial clearance of 0.5mm, and then it can be fixed with a stop washer.
